Welcome to Bright Smiles Day Nursery

Bright Smiles is a small family run nursery in a quiet residential area and has been established since 2003. The day nursery is open 51 weeks of the year 8.00 am to 6.00 pm with the flexibility of a 7.30am start and 6.30pm finish. It is on the ground floor of a three storey house with a very large children’s outdoor play area. At Bright Smiles there are four children’s play rooms:

Little Raindrops

For babies aged 6 weeks to 18 months. Our babies will have a full range of indoor and outdoor activities to aid their stage of development.

Little Raindrops

For Babies 6 Weeks to 8 Months

At Bright Smiles we are very flexible and we will organise the day to fit in with the routine of your baby. Our babies will have a full range of indoor and outdoor activities to aid their stage of development using guidance from the Early Years Foundation Stage. The day tends to begin with a short play before breakfast then followed by our focused activities based on the interests of the individual child, for example messy play, one to one games like ‘peekaboo’, outdoor play on the swings or going for a lovely walk to local amenities. During nap times we listen to calming music and afternoon activities will range from exploring and discovering with shape sorters, reading books, making lots of music with the musical instruments and heuristic play.

Smiley Sunshines

For children aged 19 months to 29 months. All activities and play will be provided to develop the child to their full potential following their interests.

Smiley Sunshines

For Tweenies & Toddlers aged 19 to 29 Months

Each child will now start to develop their own day time routine. All activities and play will be provided to develop the child to their full potential following each child’s interests and guidance from the Early Years Foundation Stage. In this room the children are becoming more independent and to help them make choices we provide them with many opportunities such as self service at mealtimes, an accessible potty for children who are ready to commence potty training, and easily accessible resources for them to choose throughout the day. For example we love to get messy in the sand, water and paint. Lots of physical activities like using the climbing frames, trikes and the children in this room will also take part in our weekly sessions of physical games provided by a coach from ‘Full of Beans’. There are also many opportunities for the children to bring their imagination to life in our ever changing role play area.

Colourful Rainbows

Preschool for 30 Months to 5 Years

In the preschool room we follow each child in their interest with guidance from the Early Years Foundation Stage; within the framework we have early learning goals. It is these early learning goals we use to help the children achieve from the activities we provide.

We start the day by making breakfast together; the children are encouraged to do as much as possible for themselves to promote independence and social skills. Activities are then set out for the day using our key person groups. During the day we have sessions like circle time this provides children with opportunities to develop listening and speaking skills and to be able to participate in large group activities. We sing songs, welcoming children to the day and self registration. Circle time also helps children gain confidence as praise is given to the children for any drawings, paintings or models the children have made during the day. Children have the opportunity to play outside everyday in all weather, this also includes going to the parks, library and beach. Outdoor activities encourage the children to explore the world around them – including going on snail hunts and digging up worms in the nursery’s mud pit! Children gain their mathematical skills through all activities for example building, baking, small world and music sessions. Children learn to count, recognise shapes; recognise numbers and match and pair. Children are encouraged to find out how things work and explore new activities all the time. The children are also encouraged to ask questions such as why, how, when and where. Literacy skills are enhanced through displays, phonics sessions and there are opportunities for children to take reading books home to bring the link from home to nursery as well as aiding progression in early reading/writing skills. In our preschool the children particularly enjoy messy play such as the sand, gloop and water, at least one messy play activity is provided everyday this helps the children develop their sense of sight, touch, smell and sound. In our ever changing role play area the children are encouraged to imitate real life situations that they may have experienced, it can calm a Childs anxiety about a new experience or a change in their family lifestyle for example going to the dentist or a new arrival.

Shooting Stars

Colourful Rainbows

Out of School & Holiday Club for 5 to 8 Years

Everyday is different in our out of school and holiday club the children are encouraged to plan the week around their own interests; they prepare their own snacks and meals through self service meal times. They are constantly being challenged with new activities and new learning opportunities. The activities are set through working with the children to gain new ideas, learning opportunities and interests as a group with their key person. It will always be made fun and challenging whether it is exploring in the rain, getting messy playing in the gloop or making cakes!
